Dubai Sets First-Ever Minimum Wage for Emirati Private-Sector Workers
Effective January 1, 2026, Dubai has introduced a statutory minimum wage of AED 6,000 for Emirati nationals in the private sector to bolster the Emiratisation strategy.

In a landmark move, Dubai has introduced a statutory minimum wage for Emirati nationals employed in the private sector. Effective January 1, 2026, companies must pay Emirati staff at least AED 6,000 (approx. US$1,635) per month, an increase from the previous AED 5,000 guideline. Firms have a grace period until June 30, 2026, to adjust existing contracts. Non-compliance risks the suspension of new work permits and exclusion from Emiratisation quotas. This regulation supports the broader government strategy to integrate more citizens into the private workforce and ensure fair compensation.
